ZAW CONCERNED WITH RIPPLE EFFECTS OF RED LOCUST

  By Moses Banda, The Zambia Alliance of Women is extremely worried with the ripple effects that the outbreak of African Migratory Red Locusts in some parts of the country are posing to farmers. And Alliance Executive Director, Edah Chimya fears that lifting families out of the poverty trap will  be a difficult task if the country does not contain the Locusts. Mrs. Chimya says the locusts are a big threat to the national food security in view of the fact that the majority of the population in the country, women in particular rely on agriculture for a living. She has since appealed to farmers in areas that have not yet being invaded by the locusts not to hesitate to report to Ministry of Agriculture if they manifest in their areas.
